Before I sign off for the day I just want to wish you all a very, very happy Thanksgiving. We here in Canadaland celebrated it all the way back in October, but if you're reading this and you're American (or residing in some other country which celebrates it today...I can't say I'm that well-versed in international holidays) then know that G and I are wishing you the loveliest of days! In all fairness we wish that for you every day, but today is Thanksgiving so why not voice it publicly for once.

Updates and such...
Modern-Guilt is now twittering away. You may be asking yourself 'how many more things can S possibly be addicted to on the internet?'...and the answer is I've no clue, but this Twitter business is extremely fun. So yeah. There's a link to it here and on the sidebar if you ever feel like knowing what's going through my head at 2 a.m. on a Monday night.
I've been tagged by the lovely Sueper of The Sueper Blog to share with ya'll the contents of the gigantic satchel full of receipts and gum wrappers that I carry around with me (more commonly known as my purse). The contents are more or less staples of anyone's purse, and are as follows: concealer, Dr. Pepper lip gloss, office and apartment building access cards, headphones, wallet, keys and suede gloves. The only integral thing that this photo lacks is my iPhone, and that would be for the very logical reason that the only thing a camera cannot see is itself (one of my favourite lines from the book Robot City which I've been trying to figure out a way to re appropriate into the blog for the past couple of days...yes, I am a huge sci-fi nerd).
I leave this tag open to anyone who wants to complete it! I hope that a lot of you do, as I'm sure most of you out there have much more thrilling purse contents than mine.

Better off as the fool...than the owner of that kind of heart.
I've been tagged by two of my favourite fashion bloggers out there, Taghrid and Merkovsky, to list 6 unimportant things that make me happy, and consequently pass the tag torch to five other bloggers. Without further adieu, here goes it... 1. Walking home from work and listening to a-wicked-good-song-which-I've-carefully-selected-to-perfectly-encompass-my extremely-specific-mood-in-that-very-moment on my iPod is one of my favourite moments in my day.
2. Yahoo Answers. Whenever I need a pick-me-up I look up something random on Yahoo Answers and am immediately inundated by hilarious/misguided/ignorant/offensive/etc. answers given to questions (n.b. I also found out that sponging a 3 part water + 1 part vinegar mixture onto salt-stained suede shoes will make them look as though they are brand new again, so occasionally I learn something useful there as well....it's almost always by accident though).

3. Marker-like writing utensils. I would hand write with nothing but thin-tipped Sharpies for the rest of my life if it were even remotely possible.4. Keith Richards' guitar solo in the most epic rock n'roll song of all time - Gimme Shelter. If this song doesn't make you feel like walking into a really cool and sexy dive bar while being cool and sexy and dancing and then getting into a fist fight or something...well, I don't know, but I DO know that I just don't get the way your brain works.
5. There are truly very few feelings as good as finding something absolutely amazing at a thrift shop for little to no money. I know that this is a disgustingly obvious thing to say within the fashion blogosphere but I just can't help it, it's true!!!6. [I'll preface this one with stating that it doesn't really qualify within the bounds of this tag, as it's not unimportant at all...it nonetheless makes me very, very happy, so I've made the executive decision to include it anyways] Every single time my iPhone beeps and it's a new comment from one of you amazing, amazing people out there in internetland. In all seriousness, no matter how awful of a day I'm having it, all of you with your kind, astonishingly lovely words something which I can guarantee to always immediately brighten my mood! So thank you to each and every one of you.

I tag the following gorgeous people (who, as far as I know, have not yet completed this tag):

The wool figure skating sweater is yet another item from my closet which was hand knit by my evil grandmother. I'm aware that the purple and orange colour scheme and completely obvious pattern of it are ever-so-slightly garish, but I nonetheless cannot help but love this sweater. As cliche as it sounds (and IS), this sweater reminds me of a much simpler time when life wasn't messy and complicated and fragile and dependent on anything more than whether or not I landed the majority of my jumps on the rink that day (and apparently I'm feeling grossly sentimentalist today, so try to ignore this diatribe of mine if you may?)
My new favourite jeans. Dark wash denim, wide-legged, J Brand - does it really get any better than this?
Shoes are an old vintage find. They're mega-platforms, so they tend to be the obvious choice with any pants which I haven't bothered to have hemmed yet.

Sky-High Shoes and Straight-Legged Jeans
Ah, 'tis the end of the work week! Make no mistake, it's been an absolutely lovely week, but I am nonetheless very much looking forward to having a couple of days without a billion and one things to accomplish.
The asymmetrically striped top I'm wearing today is a recent purchase from one of the many fast fashion shops on Yonge Street, and as such cost a whole $4.99. It is clearly not of the most admirable garment quality that the world has ever seen, but it is kind of totally awesome when paired with a black leather jacket and stovepipe jeans on a warm November day such as today has turned out to be.
Geekily enough, this whole ensemble brings visions of Elvis in 'Jailhouse Rock' to my mind, which could account for the fact that I seem to be trying to escape/enter/tear down an immovable metal fence in front of an expensive downtown condominium, as per the photo above. While I would prefer to make like Elvis and be playing a wicked retro guitar while sneering sideways at passerby, I only have so many resources at hand throughout the day and must make do with awkward fences for the time being.
Anyways, enough about my fashion worship of Elvis and limited ability to emulate his obviously inimitable coolness. Before you all go off to enjoy your undoubtedly fabulous respective weekends, G and I want to just thank every single visitor, commenter and supporter of Modern-Guilt. We hope you all have the most amazing weekends ever, and we of course look forward to seeing you all back here bright and early on Monday morning!

The striped jailbird top is from a store which I don't believe has a name, and sells countless garments made out of the cheapest jersey in the world....you know the kind, every city has them.
The jeans are by Lux, and were purchased at Urban Outfitters.
The patent oxford ankle booties are from Forever 21.
My favourite leather jacket is from Danier.

The vintage furs are finally coming out of hiding...
It feels like forever since we here at Modern-Guilt have done a 'normal' post. And while it's obviously only been since last Thursday, there is nonetheless a part of me which has missed our daily outfit photos in that interim period of time. That being said, I cannot express how thrilled G and I are at the overwhelmingly positive response to yesterday's mini-documentary post. We are considering doing more videos in the future, and will definitely keep everyone posted as to when another may rear its head onto the site.
Speaking of Modern-Guilt: The Video, today's photos are naturally the photos taken during such video's 'photo shoot' section, which is without a doubt my favourite bit. It's rare that I get to see G and I as we actually are, and as such it was a huge joy for me to bear witness to what is for all intensive purposes an outsider's perspective on us.
In other news, I will fully admit to the fact that I have somehow slipped into a state of complete and utter disregard for my spending ban…as a matter of [shameful] fact, I spent four hours in Holt Renfrew on Sunday afternoon purchasing everything from jeans to jewelry to a new jacket for G. I've no idea what came over me, but I did for a moment feel as though I had gotten the need to spend, spend, spend out of my system...
That is, until I happened to pass by a Coach on my walk home, noticing this beauty in the window. I can state with no hesitation that I have rarely, if ever, been a big fan of Coach bags, but if this one isn't my own personal version handbag perfection then I really don't know what is. While it's understandable that it may not be everyone's cup of tea, I can assert beyond any reasonable doubt that it my entire pot of tea and scones and everything else that makes tea worth having. Seriously, how amazing would this look with my winter furs?! Argh. I know, I know….I'll stop now.
Beyond the above little consumerist rant of mine, life is going swimmingly well (however, just in case there are any benevolently wealthy benefactor readers out there: please, please, please send the bag to me? Please?). Prior to my Holt Renfrew spendthrift binge on Sunday I did indeed attend a lovely Toronto Blogger's Brunch, of which I plan on giving a detailed recounting in tomorrow morning's post, as this one is already getting super long-winded, even for me…remember what I said about having missed 'regular' posting?
Once again, huge thanks to each and every one of you that left us a lovely comment on the video which we worked so hard on. Your support and love is appreciated more than either G or I are capable of expressing (which is saying a lot, particularly in my case).Wearing

Hello Traveler
It's that really strange time of year when the seasons are middling and indecisive, and because of this one can get away with wearing a tweed houndstooth blazer with jean short-shorts out to dinner and drinks and not think twice about it. Personally I'm a fan of having this kind of meteorological freedom when getting dressed, and hope for it to never end. The rarely-used logical side of brain is telling me that this is an entirely irrational thing to hope for though, so I suppose I'm just going to have to make the most of it while I still can.It is, after all, the end of another week and hence the beginning of a new weekend in a few short hours, and I must admit that I have a wickedly exciting one ahead of me. Darker My Love and the Dandy Warhols are playing tomorrow night and there's been such a concert drought in Toronto these past few months that I'm unspeakably excited to be going to see not one but two bands that I love. Otherwise I suspect that this weekend will consist of the same old stuff but, considering how absolutely crazily busy last weekend was, relaxing and doing what I want when I want should be a properly pleasant way to spend my time.
Thank you times a billion to every single person who reads and comments on Modern Guilt. It's kind of totally amazing, and I sincerely appreciate it with all of my heart. I wish you all a weekend as wonderful as the one I plan on having, and look forward to getting back on here and catching up come Monday morning...truly, you guys all make Monday mornings less dreadful than I ever considered possible!P.S. Happy birthday to my mums today, who turns a year older but still somehow manages to look as though she's not aged in ten years, and inspires me on more levels than I can count every single time I see her.

Back In The USSR
The lovely Paris Tarts tagged me in her "Project Self", which you can read more about here but, in short, requires the tagged blogger to state 8 things they like about themselves, 3 things that they dislike and 5 things that they previously disliked but have learned to love. The tagged blogger must also state something they love about both the person tagging them as well as the individual they decide to tag, and furthermore post a picture that displays at least one of the things they love or dislike about themselves. This is in response to some of the hate and general negativity that's been rearing its ugly head in the fashion blogger community recently, and I think that it's an absolutely beautiful project that the wonderful Mademoiselle Tart has come up with!
I LOVE that Paris Tarts has wicked hot red hair, inspiring style and a really engaging way of writing.
Without further adieu, my list is as follows:
8 Things I Love About Myself
I have great taste in music (and yes, I know this is arbitrary.)
I have some extraordinary people in my life who I love and they love me too.
I have a quick wit and am quite sharp.
No matter how much I mess with it, my hair doesn't damage easily (thanks to my father's genes!)
I naturally have bright blue eyes (thanks to my mums' genes!)
I'm able to laugh at myself and have a good time no matter where I am (note today's photos)
If I care about something I care about it a lot...I am entirely devoted to my interests and don't love anything halfway.
I don't break easily.
3 Things I Dislike
That I have a propensity to self destruct for no reason other than to entertain myself.
That on certain days I absolutely cannot deal with criticism.
That I spend too much money on things which I really don't need.
5 Things I Disliked But Have Learned To Embrace
I have a boyish voice.
I'm ambitious. I've noticed that many people will try to make you feel guilty for this and sometimes even succeed in doing so, but it's nothing to be ashamed of and in fact contributes to constantly learning and improving as a human being.
I will never be one of those people who has a big group of a million and one friends, but I've come to understand that this is because the friends I do have are for real.
I'm super opinionated and don't change easily. Like being ambitious, I really don't feel like there is anything wrong with this!
I have hips and...well, so what.
Deciding who to pass the "Project Self" torch to was more difficult than I can express because I truly do love you ALL...but I have come to the conclusion that I would really like to hear what the amazing Ashleigh of Rantings of a Fashion Addict has to say, because she's a fellow Canadian and one of the nicest and most sincere individuals I've had the pleasure of encountering through this whole fashion blogging endeavour - not to mention the fact that she's rockingly clever and gorgeous!

As previously stated, I really do love each and every one of you, and I really sincerely hope you have the most amazing last-weekend-of-August of your lives!

No words, only melody comes...
Last night consisted of activities that are quickly becoming typical events in my life: G and I visited some friends, had some beers with such friends, listened to music and took some pictures. It was one of those days, however, where I had worn something so unimpressively boring and 'conservative' to work that I felt the need to pile on the awesomest anti-desk job clothing within reach and give my Anita Pallenberg hat a warm welcome into my daily wardrobe, which happily resulted in an immediate sense of self-love on my part....moments like this one remind me why I love clothing as much as I do!
On to the stunningly exciting news I've vaguely alluded to for a little while and finally promised yesterday to divulge: G and I will be going to New York Fashion Week! Or rather, will be in NYC throughout New York Fashion Week...god knows if we'll actually be able to get into any of the shows, but I definitely plan on trying. However, even if we don't, can you imagine how amazing just sitting outside the tents and watching the street style is going to be? Ahhh it's all too much excitement, I have so many plans and very little direction...luckily for me that's usually where the wonderful reasonable, rational and logical G comes in and saves the day though! So yes, it's being planned and booked and we're actually going. As you can probably imagine I nearly squeal every time I go type that.
One thing I DO know we will be doing in NYC for sure is attending Spirit Animal House, a party being thrown at Pianos by the wicked hot ladies of NoGoodForMe.com which promises to be entirely off the hook. So if any of you, my gorgeous and dear readers, are in the 'hood (or do they call them bourghs [sp?] in NYC? There is so much to learn!) and want to swing by on the evening of September 9, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be there, wearing what I hope turns out to be the most fabulous thing on the face of the planet. I'm going to a very specifically out-of-this-world-super-fabulous vintage shop here in Toronto either this weekend or early next week to begin looking for such ensemble - wish me luck!
I have a ridiculously busy couple of days ahead of me (such 'busyness' being wholly inclusive of enjoying what is technically one of the last weeks of summer), and consequently won't be updating here until bright and early on Monday morning. Lastly, this has been one of our best weeks EVER; mucho, mucho thanks to each and every single one of you and have a fantastic weekend everyone!

If Love Is The Drug Then I Want to O.D.
I've decided that I can't wait any longer to delve into my autumn wardrobe and, since the recent weather here has been more than permitting for non-summer gear, the tweeds, plaids and polos are officially making their entrance. I suppose one could say that this outfit is Gossip Girl-inspired but, truth be told, it's not. I've always had a penchant for the hyper-collegiate with a quirky twist look, and I remember actually being a tad jealous of those of my high school friends who were in enrolled in schools which had strict uniform policy...mandated adorable blazers, plaid skirts, knee-high socks and mary janes...yes, please!
I find today's set of photos amusingly ironic in that the shoot took place in an alley next to a gigantic local strip club. As the ladies sauntered near the back entrance smoking in their questionable attire, I sat nearby in what can be described as the preppiest, most clean-cut outfit on the face of the planet whilst reading a book (in case you were wondering, Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster is a great read if you're even remotely interested in high fashion) - it doesn't really get more hilariously dichotomous than that for me!
Since there won't be any updates this weekend I just wanted to take the end bit of this post to thank every single one of you who continues to read, visit and comment on Modern Guilt. Just last night G and I were discussing how wonderfully astonishing and overwhelmingly awesome all of the positivity we've been receiving is, and how it's so inspiring to not only have all of these amazing people reading and looking at what we do, but to also be privy to all of the brilliant things you guys have on your own blogs! I personally feel extremely honoured by all of the support and love you guys give to us - thank you a million times over. Have the fantastic, stylish and fun weekend you all deserve, and see y'all on Monday!Wearing

Keep On Trippin On
The awful weather is not by any means going to ruin my day today, but it has somewhat ruined my outfit plans. Rainstorms are not particularly conducive to dresses and platform shoes now, are they?
I can't say I'm unhappy with today's outfit of choice though - I am wearing what is probably my favorite t-shirt; it was purchased earlier this year at the Verve's Toronto show (where G and I met Nick McCabe, OMFG indeed), and the fact that they are one of my favorite bands combined with the ridiculous perfect thinness and softness of the actual t-shirt makes it one of those items I just can't understand how I ever got by without. Also, these are probably the one pair of jeans I can tolerate wearing for more than an hour at a time.
A Chinese food lunch with one of my favorite people in the world, thrifting and balcony lounging are on the agenda, so I must be off. I don't want to be a bore, but I just want to quickly add that I am so appreciative to all of you for the really, really amazing visits and comments and we've been receiving this week! Have an amazing Sunday, and see you all tomorrow!
