The vintage furs are finally coming out of hiding...

vintage leather bag, floral shirt, Urban Planet jeans, vintage fur jacket, vintage fur coatIt feels like forever since we here at Modern-Guilt have done a 'normal' post. And while it's obviously only been since last Thursday, there is nonetheless a part of me which has missed our daily outfit photos in that interim period of time. That being said, I cannot express how thrilled G and I are at the overwhelmingly positive response to yesterday's mini-documentary post. We are considering doing more videos in the future, and will definitely keep everyone posted as to when another may rear its head onto the site.

It's rare that I get to see G and I as we actually are, and as such it was a huge joy for me to bear witness to what is for all intensive purposes an outsider's perspective on us.

I've no idea what came over me, but I did for a moment feel as though I had gotten the need to spend, spend, spend out of my system...

I can state with no hesitation that I have rarely, if ever, been a big fan of Coach bags, but if this one isn't my own personal version handbag perfection then I really don't know what is. While it's understandable that it may not be everyone's cup of tea, I can assert beyond any reasonable doubt that it my entire pot of tea and scones and everything else that makes tea worth having. Seriously, how amazing would this look with my winter furs?! Argh. I know, I know….I'll stop now.

Please?). Prior to my Holt Renfrew spendthrift binge on Sunday I did indeed attend a lovely Toronto Blogger's Brunch, of which I plan on giving a detailed recounting in tomorrow morning's post, as this one is already getting super long-winded, even for me…remember what I said about having missed 'regular' posting?

Your support and love is appreciated more than either G or I are capable of expressing (which is saying a lot, particularly in my case).

Sea Y

I'm finding myself continually trying to figure out where this little checkered jacket came from beyond the thrift store I found it at a couple of months ago. I likely possess a fantasy life which is far too rich for my own good, but I like to imagine that its previous owner was a really hip, long-haired 14 year old Nor-Cal skateboarder who wore it in 1992 and paired it with a T.S.O.L. t-shirt, baggy khaki shorts and checkered Vans when going to cooler parties than any of the ones I'll ever attend.
At least that's the vibe I get when I wear it, though I have obviously not paired it with any of the aforementioned things and, more significantly, am probably not as awesome at life as my imaginary little skateboarding dude. Then again, he did give his jacket away at some point and I did reclaim/re-appropriate it, so maybe I am. Anyways.
As much as clearly adore it, I find thrifting problematic in that, unlike 'regular' shopping in retail and mass-market stores, the items you want could be gone by the time you take cash out of an ATM to pay for them with. There is no extra stock, other location, etc. with vintage and thrifted items, which is both a blessing and a curse when you come to think of it.
While it's admittedly awesome to come across some crazy fabulous one of a kind dress that no one else is going to be seen in, at the same time this makes things particularly difficult when it comes to trying to save some money and therefore not shop for a little while....it's the "if I don't buy it now I will never have it!" mentality which, while legitimate, I find somewhat disconcerting in myself and hence my 'spending willpower' if you will.
As you may know by now (because I complain about it on here most every day), I have been on an extremely-difficult-but-necessary spending ban the past few weeks. That being said, my rant above is just a merely an exercise of me justifying to myself that I did go 'shopping' over the weekend at a new, really well-priced vintage shop called Second Necessity which has just opened up on Queen Street East (between Sherbourne & Parliament, for any Torontonians who are interested) and am claiming a gigantic haul of stuff tomorrow afternoon, which the owner was kind enough to hold for me until tomorrow's pay day. It's going to be like a little personal version of Christmas...

Cold Roses

As you can see in the included photos, yesterday I went with what I consider to be the most fail-safe autumnal outfit of all time. As it became colder later in the day I added a thin-knit grey sweater under the blazer and a little hat, which is, bottom line, the beauty of wearing jeans and a blazer - there are so many different ways to style the look, but the basis of the look is so solid that I would imagine it to be quite difficult to go wrong. As such, expect to see many variations on this theme in the upcoming months.
So I definitely caved yesterday and did in fact stop by Urban Planet to pick up a pair of flat moto ankle boots. They're obviously not the most quality item in the world, but to be honest do the job really nicely for very little money spent. And yes, I know that it was just yesterday morning when I ranted about having too much junk in my crazy mess of a wardrobe, but what can I say...I have very little self-restraint when it comes to spending money, which I'm certain the friendly folks over at Visa absolutely adore about me.The fun did not stop at unnecessarily purchasing things yesterday, because G and I then made our way over to a friend's recording studio to muck about and create some electro-house tracks just for kicks. And yes, I'm being entirely serious. Mostly I'm just amused by the various effect controls with which I can make things sound like they came from outer space - a word of warning, never trust me to produce anything unless you're entirely willing to be continuously told that it doesn't sound spacey enough.
Mind you my obsession with making vast space noises amongst other people's actual producing skills took until 3 a.m. to complete, and as such I don't feel quite up to my usual energy level yet - nothing a Grande Bold and a brisk walk won't fix, which I'm off to get and do now.

Still I've Got a Flashbulb Head

I admittedly have a soft spot for the dumb-blonde genre of chick flick...but seriously, seriously, seriously, I have never ever seen a film as horrendously awful and plotless as The House Bunny. If you have not seen it I highly suggest that you never waste two entire hours of your life doing so as G and I regrettably did last night. The only solace I take in having gone to see this film (if it can even be called that) is that is gave me the chance to stop by my local Urban Planet which, as you may be aware of by now, I am mildly obsessed with. I can always count on good old UP to not disappoint, and yesterday evening was no exception: I found at minimum 20 items that I require in my closet as soon as possible. But speaking of closets, I've recently become inspired to do something about the absolute unorganized mess of mine before anything else enters it. Because in all honesty, anything that enters it as it stands will only be thrown about and lost within a week and a half. The fact that nothing is easy to find and that all seasons and types are kind of mish-mashed and jumbled together is making it increasingly difficult to dress creatively. I'm a big fan of the whole 'sound and organized living space = sound and organized mind' notion, and I believe it's high time for me to take action, so an Ikea trip may be in order today.
On a separate note, I've concluded that there is not much which doesn't go with the insane boots I was wearing yesterday. Socks have become a necessity basically overnight, and these thankfully go quite nicely with them as well as with bare feet - and in case I've yet to mention it, multifunctional totally works for me. They're also extraordinarily comfortable...and I'm a walker, meaning I on average I walk close to 10 kilometers a day (that's what you get for being a 20-something without a driver's license, hoorah!) and these boots can take it, meaning that they were indeed a clever and justifiable purchase.
