I see the rifles coming over the hill...

I'm growing increasingly excited for the upcoming weekend of nuptials (and more importantly, the open bar at such event) and concert festival goings (where there is not an open bar, but Oasis + Stereophonics + Paul Weller makes up for that), making it horribly difficult to keep myself focused on the current mundane tasks at hand...I'm mostly referring to work here for the record. It doesn't help that this weird and awful allergy sickness is kind of lingering around me. Ugh.
That being said, nothing - and I truly mean nothing - would be able stop me from going to Day 2 of this year's Virgin Festival. I don't really care how lame it is considered by indie music purists to love Oasis. They were my first true music love and will probably remain so until I kick the bucket and, while I'm more than willing to admit that the past couple of albums haven't been up to par, Definitely Maybe and Be Here Now in a sense defined my youth and opened up a whole world to me which, at that point in my little bubble of a suburban life, I hadn't known existed. This will be my fourth time having seen the band in action but my first time seeing them in a festival setting which, if you know anything about the band, is kind of their forte. And, while V-Fest is no Knebworth circa 1996, I certainly still expect it to be entirely mega.
Onwards and upwards. I am currently infatuated with this thrifted pleather skirt. I have a feeling it's only going to become more useful in the autumn and winter months, and am absolutely dying to pair it with opaque black tights and thin knit cashmere sweaters and the like. In the meantime it's still awesome though because really, can you ever really go wrong with black [p]leather garments? It's eternally badass, so personally I think not.

Even In Your Lightest Day

Another day, another dress. Through this blog I've begun to realize just how many dresses I currently possess...in fact I don't believe I've repeated one yet, and that's not even beginning to touch on my fall and winter dress collection. I can perhaps understand why my friends and family scoff and roll their eyes at me when I whine about having nothing to wear. That being said, they kind of just don't get it, whereas I'm certain many of you do - when you spend an excessive amount of time poring over magazines, websites and photographs concerning 'style', enough is never enough. It's not so much about trends or popularity as it is the development of a complete, tirelessly unique personal aesthetic, the kind seemingly only achieved by the likes of Marianne Faithfull and Carine Roitfeld, and even they repeat an outfit occasionally I gather.
In the past year I have discovered that my love for dresses is rivaled only by my love of well worn-in cardigans - put the two together and, in my opinion, you have a wicked kind of fashion magic going on. For quite a while I wondered what all of the Alexa Chung hullabaloo was about ('hullabaloo' was the first word that came to mind, but really, who ever uses that word?!), but as soon as I happened upon a photo of her wearing a cardigan over a black silk evening dress at the NME Awards, I knew that she was a sort of kindred fashion spirit and hence developed a certain degree of respect for the girl.
In other news, G and I saw 'The Wackness' last night with some friends and it was surprisingly brilliant. I had a feeling I would enjoy it, as I'm virtually guaranteed to like almost anything set in the 90's (for the record: the 60's, the 90's and fictionalizations of a dystopic future are good, pretty much everything else...not so much), but my only complaint would be that is was rooted in the hip-hop culture of New York City in 1994, and I'm personally more interested in the emergence of Britpop in 1994 (um, Definitely Maybe anyone?). But really, whatever, Olivia Thirlby nonetheless wore some really dope and jealously-inducing liberty print florals in it, and MK Olsen's ten minutes onscreen as a tiny, flighty hippie was worth the admission price even if the rest of the film had sucked, which it enjoyably did the opposite of.

Can't Go Back

I got my hands on a pre-release of this song a few weeks ago, and I loved it immediately. Furthermore, I love Primal Scream for just being Primal Scream. I love Bobby Gillespie for wearing the most amazing slim-fit suits since Jagger. And, since this is a fashion and not a music blog, I feel it's significant to add that I love that they consistently make interesting, sinister music videos which are, for me, the equivalent of an Emmanuelle Alt-styled Paris Vogue editorial, from Kate Moss and Devon Aoki in 'Kowalski' from the 90's to Lily Cole and several other models in the new one for 'Can't Go Back'...

I covet everything everyone in this video is wearing. If any of you know who the models (other than Lily) are, or what suits Gillespie wears, let me know in the comments? Otherwise, enjoy!
