How lovely it is to find a plaid shirt that fits!

I've had a thing for plaid, button-down shirts for as long as I can remember. I'm unsure as to where or when my obsession with all things checked originated, but I do know that the thrill I felt when I saw this shirt on a shop girl in Guess a couple of weeks back was nearly second to none. As far as my love for the typically masculine garment goes, I've found that looking for a shirt of this kind to be boy-ish but not actually made for a boy to be a consistently unfortunate and trying endeavour.
I'm certain that you are all beginning to think I have the worst, most proletarian taste in the world, what with the Foot Locker hoodie yesterday and now a Guess Jeans shirt. Alas, the Dolce & Gabbana offerings of plaid shirts and lumberjack dresses are out of my price range at this point in time, and if I can find a similarly designed top at a fraction of the price (which consequently allows me to look the way I want to and keep up my standard of living in all other respects), what does it matter to me what the tag on the inside of it says? Truth is, it doesn't, and I'm happy that such places exist at which I can get my affordable fashion fix!
As much as I love fashion, I believe it's a grave mistake to take it too seriously - so to complete my mall fashion extravaganza look, take note of the grey high-waisted Urban Planet jeans and Forever 21 oxford lace-up platform pumps. Even my black leather blazer, as much as I adore it and want to wear it every single day forever, is from Danier.
Regardless of the fact that every single item I'm wearing came from the cheesiest mall stores imaginable, this turned out to be a quite practical look for an evening that consisted of a dental appointment and a stroll through one of the cuter areas of the city, and one that I quite liked for that matter.
I even managed to have a bit of fun while at the dentist's office, as per the joke photo below. My dentist undoubtedly thought that I was out of my mind when G and I started laughing uncontrollably at the x-ray glasses (which we've since deemed 'The Lady Gaga') for fun - it's all about voguing no matter the location, darlings!Wearing
The fitted plaid button-down shirt is from Guess.
The leather blazer/jacket was purchased at Danier a couple of years back, and has not worn in completely to my liking yet.
The grey high-waisted button jeans are from Urban Planet.
The black patent oxford booties are from Forever 21.
I recently purchased this purse at Over the Rainbow in Yorkville, Toronto.

The Coldest Heart

I've been wearing a properly massive amount of black in recent history, as I seem to do from time to time. But as it gets more and more chilly with each passing day here, I expect that the black clothing is an early indication of what to expect from me throughout the winter months. While I quite obviously go really eccentrically bohemian with my taste in the summertime, but for me it just feels like poor taste to do so in the winter unless, of course, you're Rachel Zoe and possess gigantic and warm vintage Dior furs and the like.
With no histrionics or exaggeration I can firmly state that I loathe winter with a fiery passion in my heart. But at the same time I see no reason why it should result in anyone dressing really infinitely poorly. Of course there will be the occasional day of taking no heed of form and instead focusing entirely on the function of not freezing to death or getting slush in your socks - one would have to be insane to not take such things into consideration...which, come to think of it, means I have seen a veritable ton of insane people in this city.
Nonetheless, a slip on the sidewalk ice here or there is a small price to pay to not look like the Michelin Man (seriously, what is up with those ridiculous floor-length puffer coats that people wear?! Can they really even be that warm?!)
Okay, I've officially gone off on a tangent, and as such I'm certain that those of my readers who live in wonderful perpetual sunny and warm places have no idea what I'm on about...and for that I sorely envy them. And, since there's no use in getting preemptively upset about the inevitable, I suppose I should just enjoy light-jacket-and-boots weather while we still have it.
So on another note, in regards to the recent nail polish inquiries I've received: it's called Just Groovy, made by O.P.I., and I'm seriously considering making it my signature colour. It's weirdly awesome because it's obviously quite distinctive, but at the same time seems to match and/or clash in an interesting way with most everything I own.

Blowing Down The Stylus

What a weekend! First and foremost, Darker My Love absolutely killed it on Saturday night and should officially be far, far more renowned than they currently are. The crowd seemed to really enjoy them though, so perhaps this tour means that they will become so...G and I did, after all, convince and assure a couple of attendees to purchase their latest LP while purchasing me a t-shirt at the concesion stand.
But whatever, I obviously can't really say for sure so what I do know is that I had a wicked good time dancing to their set and that my neck is in a bit of pain today, potentially as a result. Which worries me because such feeling begs the question: am I actually getting properly old? Eugh, changing the subject...
Sunday was spent in the exact lazy manner which I expected and required it to be. Mind you we did go for an super-extra-long long walk to run errands and I'm almost certain that I consequently incurred some type of heat stroke from the awful Toronto humidity (which seems to have finally subsided as of today, thank god), but at least I managed to not purchase anything in the shops for once! This quite possibly has something to do with the limitations which my chequing account is currently imposing on me, but I'd prefer to kid myself and say that it's a matter of self-control and frugality.
Oh, and parking lots are seemingly one of the best photo locations/hanging out spots in the world. The below picture is dare I say my favourite ever.

Watch Them Fly Sundays

There isn't much about this past weekend to expand upon. I shopped, dined, drank, walked, dealt with the arduous Canadian passport renewal procedures, visited family and old friends and watched some deliciously terrible B movies from the 90's and revelled in the fact that for once it did not rain! A weekend such as the one just had is by all means considered a win in my books.
Yesterday's outfit as pictured is the result of a thoroughly satisfying fast-fashion moment at Urban Planet. I'm pretty certain that this shop of shockingly inexpensive, disposable, trendy goods is a strictly Canadian thing, but I could be wrong. Regardless, I used to be a little bit ashamed of my Urban Planet addiction, and mostly because it can be really easily misconstrued: as much as I adore all of the things I have personally purchased there, I have no trouble whatsoever admitting that it is impossibly easy to walk out of that store having spent $10 total and looking like a Trampy McTramp from head to toe. As such, I've generally felt as though stating my love for this store groups me in with a class of girls and women with whom I would never, ever like to be even remotely akin to.The trip made to the Queen Street West Urban Planet mecca on Saturday afternoon admittedly changed it all though. Two pairs of the most eerily perfect fitting straight-leg jeans in the most fantastic medium-blue and greyish-black for $30? Check! Summery featherweight maxi dresses for $5 apiece? Check!! More accessories, shoes, sunglasses, belts, hair ribbons, blah blah blah than I can shake a stick at? Check, check, check!!!

I LOVE URBAN PLANET AND AM NOT AFRAID TO SAY IT.
...Well maybe I am kind of afraid to say it. But do you know what, Carine Roitfeld? Maybe if you adopted me then I wouldn't need to make the dreaded fast fashion lifestyle choice. I'm well aware that you would rather have me live in a cardboard box with real Dries Van Noten platforms than god forbid have me lead a pretty comfortable existence with the 'inspired' Forever 21 versions, but, well...whatever, I'm so over it.
